Arthroscopy Surgery

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure in which an arthroscope is inserted into a joint. Arthroscopy is a term that comes from two Greek words, arthro- meaning joint and – scope meaning to examine. Arthroscopy is performed in a hospital operating room under general anesthesia. The arthroscope is a small fiber-optic viewing instrument made up of a tiny lens, light source and video camera. The surgical instruments used in arthroscopic surgery are very small (only 3 or 4 mm in diameter), but appear much larger when viewed through an arthroscope. The television camera attached to the arthroscope displays the image of the joint on a television screen, allowing the surgeon to look, for example, throughout the knee-at cartilage and ligaments, and under the kneecap. The surgeon can determine the amount or type of injury and then do the repair. Usually, this procedure is performed on a patient under spinal or general anesthesia. Often, Arthroscopic surgeries for sports injuries are used in a blend with other methods or open surgeries. The most common condition, whereArthroscopysurgery is used, is to treat tendon tears in the knee. Other conditions include torn ligaments & cartilage, carpal tunnel syndrome, inflammation of the joint lining, tears in rotator cuffs & loosening of cartilage and bones.

Rehab & Physiotherapy

Rehab & Physiotherapy Physical therapy exercises can improve the ability to use parts of the body that have been affected by disease or injury. Physiotherapists may work in hospitals, private practices, or with social services. people are increasingly resorting to physical therapy as a holistic healing method to achieve a healthier life. Total Knee Replacement

Total Knee Replacement A total knee replacement (TKR) or total knee arthroplasty is an operation to replace a knee joint that is affected by arthritis. Total Knee Replacement surgery replaces the arthritic knee joint with highly specialized metal and plastic implants. The artificial knee joint is made from a surgical-grade metal alloy with a special wear resistant plastic insert. Total Knee Replacement is one of the most successful operations available today with over 90% still functioning well at 15 years. Prior to surgery you will usually have tried some conservative treatments such as simple analgesics, weight loss, anti-inflammatory medications, modification of your activities, walking aids, or physical therapy.

Accident & Trauma Surgery

Trauma can be defined as physical injuries caused by accidents and impacts. Trauma patients can be the victims of injuries ranging from a simple fall at home to complex injuries following road accidents. Trauma surgery is the stream which involves in surgical treatments for physical injuries, especially emergency situations such as accident cases. A team approach involving Doctors from various specialties and para medical staffs is necessary in addressing and resuscitating these patients. Trauma patients usually present with multiple injuries which may involve the brain, face, chest, abdomen, pelvis, bone, blood vessels, nerves and soft tissues. Immediate primary care and resuscitation is the key in saving these patients which is possible only in tertiary centers with round the clock emergency care.

Hip Replacement

Hip Replacement Surgery Hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which an orthopaedic surgeon eliminates the severely damaged hip parts and replaces them with artificial implants made from metal or plastic. Normally, hip replacement is the final treatment option for arthritis carried out under anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon prepares the surface of the hip bone by removing the inflamed/diseased cartilage and later on attaching the replacement socket portion to the hipbone. Total Hip Replacement (THR) is only considered when all conservative treatments have been tried and, yet you continue to have significant pain, stiffness, or problems with the function of your hip. The artificial joint thus created realigns the joint and functions like a normal joint. The pain is relieved and leg length can be restored. Walking becomes much easier. Hip replacement was first done in 1960’s. Since then there has been great technological advances in this field. Total hip replacement is one of the most successful surgeries in the whole world!

Ligaments are elastic bands of tissue that connect bones to each other and provide stability and strength to the joint. The four main ligaments in the knee connect the femur (thighbone) to the tibia (shin bone), and include the following: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The ligament, located in the center of the knee, that controls rotation and forward movement of the tibia (shin bone). Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). The ligament, located in the back of the knee, that controls backward movement of the tibia (shin bone). Medial collateral ligament (MCL). The ligament that gives stability to the inner knee. Lateral collateral ligament (LCL). The ligament that gives stability to the outer knee. Knee Replacement Knee replacement, also called knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. Metal and plastic parts are used to cap the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap. This surgery may be considered for someone who has severe arthritis or a severe knee injury. The goal of knee replacement surgery is to resurface the parts of the knee joint that have been damaged and to relieve knee pain that cannot be controlled by other treatments.

Shoulder Joint Problem treatment

Common Shoulder problems treated or assisted by arthroscopy in shoulder joint | Shoulder Arthroscopy treatment by Dr. Darshan Sonawane What is recurrent Shoulder Dislocation? Shoulder dislocation is usually caused by an injury. A traumatic shoulder dislocation, especially in the younger patients, tends to become recurrent due to a failure of the torn ligament (IGHL) and labrum to heal at the correct anatomical location. With repeated dislocations, the extent of damage to the bone (Humerus-Hill Sachs lesion, glenoid bone loss) as well as the soft tissues (Bankart lesion, ALPSA lesion) increases. MRI scan and CT scan can usually give a fairly good idea about the extent of damage suffered and helps in planning the surgery. In patients with a preserved bone stock and good quality soft tissues, arthroscopic labral repair (Bankart repair, ALPSA repair) will give excellent results. After the repair, patients are able to get back to leading an active lifestyle including participating in sports. SLAP tears SLAP or superior labrum anterior-posterior detachments are seen more often in overhead athletes. They are generally caused either by a traction injury to the arm or a fall on an outstretched hand. They usually present with a dull aching pain in the upper arm along with a weakness in throwing or overhead activities. Various types (more than 7 types) have been described and most of the symptomatic patients need arthroscopic repair of SLAP for recovery and function.
